Lynx - Senske at Mid-Ohio
CHASING HISTORY WITH VICTORY
Fast Facts Lynx Racing driver Sara Senske in the Barber Dodge Pro
Series
support race at the Miller Lite 200, August
11 - 12
- At the Target Grand Prix of Chicago on August 29, Senske made history by
becoming the first female driver ever to start on the front row and finish
on the podium at a CART-sanctioned race.
- Earlier this year, Senske drove in the 'Pro' division of the Toyota
Pro/Celebrity Race at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach
- Senske drives for one of the most unique teams in auto racing today, a
championship-winning driver development program owned by two women, Peggy
Haas and Jackie Doty.
Lynx Racing driver Sara Senske will be trying to follow history
with victory in the Barber Dodge Pro Series Support race at this weekend's
Miller Lite 200 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
She made history two weeks ago in the BDPS race at the Target
Grand Prix of Chicago when she qualified on the front row and finished
second -- becoming the first woman ever to score a podium finish at a
CART-sanctioned race.
The next history she hopes to make is becoming the first female
driver to win a BDPS race, and doing it on the challenging 2.258-mile,
13-turn Mid-Ohio road course would suit her just fine.
"Scoring my first podium finish at Chicago was the mental and
emotional breakthrough that every driver needs before they can go on to the
next level of achievement -- winning a race," says Senske. "I've always
done well on ovals, because they require finesse and bravery, which I have
plenty of. This weekend's challenge will be to translate what I learned
about running up front at Chicago into a completely different kind of race
track, but it's a challenge I welcome because if I'm going to achieve my
ultimate goal of racing in the CART FedEx series, I'll need to know how to
win on all kinds of tracks."
Barber Dodge Pro Series qualifying is from 11:30 am to 12 noon on
Saturday, August 11, and the 40-minute race is the final event of the
weekend, scheduled to take the green flag at 4:15 pm Sunday, August 12.
2001 marks the 11th anniversary of Lynx Racing, one of the most
unique organizations in auto racing today. Created and owned by two women,
Peggy Haas and Jackie Doty, Lynx is both a championship-winning racing team
and a uniquely successful driver development program that focuses on a
driver's mental, psychological and spiritual growth in addition to their
on-track skills.
The Lynx mission is to seek out young drivers with the desire and
potential to become champions at the highest levels of the sport and
provide them with the funding, equipment and training to take the last step
toward realizing that potential, a process the team calls 'Destiny by
Design.' Lynx alumni include CART FedEx drivers Patrick Carpentier
(Player's/Forsythe), Memo Gidley (Target Chip Ganassi) and Alex Barron (who
recently ran the testing and development program for CART and Firestone at
Rockingham and the Eurospeedway with Dale Coyne Racing).
Current Lynx drivers include Senske and David Rutledge, 23, of
Vancouver, B.C., who is second in the CART Toyota Atlantic Championship
with three wins -- all from the pole -- and two podium finishes.
