Hendrick Motorsports Selects SafeWord Strong Authentication Solution From Secure Computing

    SAN JOSE, Calif.--Aug. 9, 2001--

NASCAR Racing Organization Deploys SafeWord for Secure Network Access to Racing and Track Data

Secure Computing Corp. , a leading provider of enterprise access control solutions, today announced that Hendrick Motorsports has chosen Secure Computing's SafeWord(TM) authentication and authorization solution for secure access to their corporate network. SafeWord allows Hendrick Motorsports to access their network via virtual private networking (VPN) or dial-up, while ensuring that this information is protected from unauthorized access.
Hendrick Motorsports started as a one-car race team in 1984 and has grown into a multi-car operation with drivers Jeff Gordon, Terry Labonte, Jerry Nadeau, Jack Sprague and Ricky Hendrick. In their 17-year history, Hendrick has won one hundred NASCAR Winston Cup points events and has claimed six NASCAR championships, with four consecutive NASCAR Winston Cup titles between 1995 and 1998, as well as earning the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series crown in 1997 and 1999. A sophisticated racing complex in Harrisburg, N.C., provides Hendrick Motorsports with facilities to design, test and make its own cars and engines for all of its teams.
"Our engineers and crew chiefs need access to the data we gather from races and daily activity, but we can't risk it getting into the hands of our competitors," said Chris Newsome, IT director at Hendrick Motorsports. "My LAN Manager and I used SafeWord while working at another company and there was no doubt in our minds that it would meet our needs for secure remote access here at Hendrick."
Whether remotely accessing the network by VPN or dial-up, Hendrick engineers and crew chiefs are authenticated via SafeWord with a Secure Computing Gold 3000 token. The token generates a single use password, which is not susceptible to capture and replay. With SafeWord, the racing team gets the access they need without the risk of traditional fixed password systems.
SafeWord brings strong AAA (authentication, authorization and accountability) to e-Business enterprises in Fortune 500 companies spanning a wide spectrum of industries, including health care, finance, utilities and federal, state and local government. SafeWord's one-time, dynamic passwords provide highly secure, strong user authentication for secure access to applications, Web servers and network resources. With SafeWord authorization, administrators can control each user's access based on the user's needs. Detailed audit logs capture all user access activity, including failed login attempts. SafeWord provides unlimited scalability to meet the needs of large and growing enterprises.
"Whether a global enterprise or a single location company, organizations need a secure network infrastructure to protect their most valuable assets -- their information," said Vince Schiavo, senior vice president of worldwide sales at Secure Computing. "SafeWord provides customers like Hendrick Motorsports, and organizations of any size, with a highly secure authentication solution for remote access to mission-critical data."
