Laskawy Elected to Goodyear Board
AKRON, Ohio, Aug. 7 Philip A. Laskawy, who retired as chairman and chief executive officer of Ernst & Young LLP on June 30, has been elected to the board of directors of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. "Mr. Laskawy successfully led Ernst & Young's re-engineering effort that resulted in higher levels of customer service, greater diversity and outstanding revenue growth," said Samir G. Gibara, Goodyear's chairman and chief executive officer. "His experience and focus on change management will be a valuable addition to our Board as Goodyear seeks to get even closer to its customers." Laskawy, 60, became Ernst & Young's chairman and chief executive officer in 1994 and assumed the additional role of chairman of Ernst & Young International in 1997. He joined the firm in 1961 and, after several positions in the audit services practice, became a partner in 1971. Laskawy became managing partner of Ernst & Young's New York office in 1981 and, in 1985, vice chairman and managing partner of the New York region and a member of the management committee. He serves on the Board of Catalyst, a leading non-profit organization that works for the advancement of women in businesses. In addition, he is an active board member of several New York civic and philanthropic organizations, including Dance Theater Foundation (Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater), Educational Broadcasting Corp. (WNET), the Jewish Museum and the Philharmonic- Symphony Society of New York. Laskawy earned a bachelor of science degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
