KILBY LEADS BUMGARNER IN TIGHT ARA POINT BATTLE

JEFFERSON, GEORGIA - Scott Kilby and Keith Bumgarner will resume their
battle for the American Racing Association (ARA) Kool Seal Challenge series
championship on Sunday in the August Blast Twin 125s at Peach State
Speedway.  Kilby currently has 418 points and leads Bumgarner by a single
point in the season-long points battle. 

Don’t be surprised to watch them use a different philosophy of point
gathering, though.  Their individual strategies start when they line up for
the 125-lap feature.

Under ARA rules, the top two qualifiers each earn five bonus points.  Then,
the top five qualifiers have the option of inverting their starting
position in an attempt to earn up to 10 extra bonus points.   If he elects,
the pole winner can start sixth, the second-fastest qualifier seventh, and
so forth.  Then he may earn two bonus points for each position he improves
during the race, with a maximum of 10 passing points available.

Regular race points are based on the number of starters.  If there are 25
starters, the winner gets 25 points, second place 24 points, and so forth,
down to 1 point for 25th place.

Bumgarner, 22, hasn’t inverted a single time in 13 Kool Seal Challenge
starts this year, while Kilby tends to prefer inversion.  So while
Bumgarner has five wins in his #95 Country Chair Ford to Kilby’s two
victories in his #30 A&H Windows Chevrolet.

Westley Huffman of Blytheville, SC (#5 Table Rock Sweet Water Chevy) is
third with 369 points, and Greg Marlowe of Troutman, NC (#07 Southern Pride
Chevy) is fourth with 342 points.

"My main focus is winning races," says Bumgarner, of Conover, NC.  "If we
win enough races, the championship will take care of itself.   Our guys
would rather win than take the chance of tearing up the car going for bonus
points.  The further you start back, the more likely you are to get in
trouble."

The ARA Kool Seal Challenge Series will share the track with the ARA
Southern Thunder Late Models in twin 125-lap features.  There will also be
two local divisions on the Sunday racing program.

The track opens at 10am on Sunday, August 12, with practice for the ARA
Kool Seal Challenge Series Late Model Stock Car All-Stars starting at Noon.
 Time trials are set for 4pm.  And, the green flag is set to fall on the
August Blast Twin 125s at 6pm.
