The opening scenes of "The Princess Diaries" were shot in San Francisco
where visitors can rent ZAP electric scooters. The production requested
several ZAPPY scooters to be delivered to the set when it was learned that
director Garry Marshall ("Pretty Woman," "Runaway Bride") wanted to create a
similar atmosphere to set the stage for the transformation of a normal,
everyday teenager into a "Princess."
