'Princess' Rules the Road With ZAP Scooter

    SEBASTOPOL, Calif., Aug. 6 It's a story about a hip,
young, scooter-riding teenager who finds out one day she's a Princess -- only
this Princess rules the road on an electric scooter from ZAP .
    "The Princess Diaries" from Walt Disney Pictures opened Friday, August 3,
2001 in theaters across America with a scene in which the lead actress uses a
ZAPPY electric scooter from Northern California electric transportation
developer ZAP.  Rated G, "The Princess Diaries" features a star-studded cast,
including the Academy Award(R)-winning Julie Andrews, Hector Elizondo and

    The opening scenes of "The Princess Diaries" were shot in San Francisco
where visitors can rent ZAP electric scooters.  The production requested
several ZAPPY scooters to be delivered to the set when it was learned that
director Garry Marshall ("Pretty Woman," "Runaway Bride") wanted to create a
similar atmosphere to set the stage for the transformation of a normal,
everyday teenager into a "Princess."
