Taylor Motorsports Drivers Survive Hickory

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., (August 6, 2001) -- Hal Goodson continued his string
of consistent runs with a fourth-place finish Saturday night in USAR ProCup
Series action at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway while teammate Scott Hall
saw his strong run end early when he was involved in an accident with Shane
Huffman.
Goodson started the event from the sixth starting position and quickly
settled into the top-five. While he was never able to grab the top spot
during the 250-lap event, Goodson's presence was felt throughout the event
as the driver of the No. 45 Carlin Financial Chevrolet Monte Carlo hovered
in the top five and when the checkered flag waved, Goodson was credited
with a fourth-place finish.

"We were just off a little Saturday night," Goodson said. "We were never
able to get the car exactly where we needed it to make a run at the
leaders, but we'll go back to the shop and the guys on this team will figure out
where we were off and we'll come back strong at South Boston."

Goodson's fourth-place finish allowed him to remain second in USAR ProCup
Series Southern Division standings. Goodson now trails leader Bobby Gill
by 36 points.

Scott Hall's night started out with an impressive third-place qualifying
effort as the driver of the No. 54 Carlin Financial Chevrolet Monte Carlo
was set to make his third-career ProCup Series start.

When the green flag waved, Hall settled into a comfortable pace running in
the top 10. After a pit stop during a caution, Hall was mired back in 21st
place, but quickly showed the muscle of his Taylor Motorsports entry, and
by lap 150 the Walkertown, N.C. resident had worked his way back into the
caution came out and the No. 84 machine of Shane Huffman got together with
Hall's No. 54, with Huffman's car landing on the hood of Hall's car.
"It was just one of those racing deals," Hall said. "I saw the caution
lights come on and I slowed down, but Shane's spotter didn't let him know
about the caution and he ran over the left side and hood of my car. I
talked to Shane after the incident and it wasn't his fault either. He was not
told about the caution and he tried to slow up in time to avoid hitting me, but
there wasn't enough time. I know he felt bad about it, but it was just one
of those racing deals."
After his crew made repairs to the car, Hall returned to racing action to
gain more seat time. Hall was credited with a 26th-place finish.
"We had a really good car Saturday night," Hall continued. "We were
running seventh and I knew the leaders had not pitted yet, so we would have been
in a good position to have a shot at the victory, but it was just not meant
to be. I'm looking forward to heading to South Boston."
Goodson and Hall get a weekend off before they both head to South Boston
Va.) Speedway on Aug. 18 for the next round on the USAR ProCup Series
Southern Division Tour.
