ARCA RE/MAX release, Schrader
FRESH FROM DARLINGTON, SCHRADER, STEWART, PETREE IN TIGHT DRAFT TOWARDS
DUQUOIN DIRT
For Immediate Release
TOLEDO OH, 8-5-01 - NASCAR Winston Cup players Ken Schrader, Tony
Stewart and Andy Petree have filed entries for the ARCA RE/MAX Series
Southern Illinois 100 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds dirt-mile Labor
Day Weekend, Monday, September 3.
While Schrader, in his own Federated Auto Parts Pontiac, will be making
his 22nd career RE/MAX Series start, Stewart and Petree will make their
first attempt in ARCA's premier touring series.
"It's all contingent on what happens at Darlington the day before," said
ARCA PR/Media director Don Radebaugh. "If the Sunday afternoon Mountain
Dew Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway gets weather, or rains out, then
that may prevent them from being able to come. But if all goes well at
Darlington, then we expect to see all three at DuQuoin. But none of this
would have been possible without the help of Ken Schrader who was
extremely instrumental in making it happen. He's done a lot for the
series through the years, and he continues to play a significant role."
Stewart, who has competed on the DuQuoin dirt in USAC Silver Bullet
competition, is expected to be in a car fielded by two-time and
defending ARCA RE/MAX Series champion car owner Larry Clement who fields
Advance Auto Parts-Pork sponsored Fords for defending champion driver
Frank Kimmel. Petree, who currently fields cars for Joe Nemechek and
Bobby Hamilton in Winston Cup competition, is expected to field a car
from his existing stable of Chevrolets.
In addition, 1999 ARCA RE/MAX Series champion Bill Baird has informed
ARCA officials that the Sturgis, Kentucky driver will be making a return
to RE/MAX Series competition at DuQuoin along with veteran Bob Strait in
a Bill Hendren-owned entry and '88 champion Tracy Leslie.
"We're proud of ARCA's dirt track history, and we expect this to be one
of the most exciting dirt-track events in recent memory," added
Radebaugh. "This series was born on the dirt in 1953, and we're still
there. Now toss in ARCA RE/MAX regulars Frank Kimmel, Andy Belmont, Tim
Steele and Ron Cox to name a few, plus last year's polesitter and local
favorite Joe Cooksey, and it's going to be a big, big show."
Entries are also expected from four-time and defending DuQuoin winner
Billy Thomas and leading RE/MAX Series rookie of the year contender
Jason Jarrett, who will make his first start on dirt.
Schrader, who has also competed at DuQuoin in the Silver Bullet Series,
has eight wins in RE/MAX competition since his first start in 1981.
Three of those victories were on dirt tracks at Hagerstown Maryland in
1990, the Indianapolis, Indiana Fairgrounds dirt-mile in '94 and the
Springfield, Illinois Fairgrounds dirt-mile in '98. In addition,
Schrader has recorded RE/MAX Series wins on the Topeka, Kansas road
course in '91, Toledo Speedway Ohio in '97, Anderson Speedway Indiana
and Salem Speedway Indiana in '99. Schrader's most recent win came in
April of this year in the inaugural PFG Lester 150 at the new Nashville
Superspeedway.
