Peregrine Systems(R) Joins Elite Sponsors of 2001 Acura Classic

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 3 Peregrine Systems, Inc. ,
one of the world's leading software companies, today joined an elite group of
sponsors of the 2001 Acura Classic, a premiere stop on the Sanex WTA tour,
which began earlier this week at La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
This year, the San Diego tournament has attracted the top five players in
the world, including Martina Hingis, Jennifer Capriati, Venus Williams,
Lindsay Davenport, and Kim Clijsters in addition to fan favorites Anna
Kournikova and Monica Seles. The event final will be televised in the U.S. on
FOX Network with additional semifinal and quarterfinal coverage on Fox Sports
Net. The tournament reaches an international audience of more than
370 million viewers through broadcasts around the world, and it offers
$750,000 in prize money, making it the most lucrative event in its category.
"Peregrine is excited about this opportunity to support world-class
athletes and increase awareness of our brand at this high-profile WTA event,"
said Thomas Smith, Peregrine's senior vice president of global marketing.
"The technical dexterity and skill of these athletes reflect the Peregrine
brand values and personality, and as a San Diego-based company, we are
delighted to be a part of this tournament."
This sponsorship reinforces the sports marketing segment of Peregrine's
integrated brand strategy, which includes the title sponsorship of the
Peregrine Systems U.S. Open track and field event held at Stanford University
in June.
