Electronic Systems Technology Awarded Radio Contract for Daimler/Chrysler's Newark Plant
KENNEWICK, Wash.--Aug. 3, 2001--Electronic Systems Technology, Inc. (EST) (OTC:ELST), manufacturer of the ESTeem(R) product line of wireless radio modems, today announced a contract awarded by Rockwell Automation for hardware and engineering support at Chrysler's Newark, Delaware, plant where the Durango(R) Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) products are manufactured. The ESTeem wireless modems will provide the wireless network to 165 remote stations in an automated lighting and fan control project located throughout the plant.
With energy conservation foremost in the news this summer, Rockwell Automation was hired by Chrysler to design and implement a control system to automatically shut down indoor lighting and exhaust fans in areas not occupied in the 3,500,000 square foot plant, thereby providing significant energy cost savings. Conventional wiring could not be used due to the constant changing of production lines on the factory floor. Rockwell Automation manufactures the Allen-Bradley(R) line of programmable logic controllers (PLC's) that are used in industrial automation systems throughout the world. At Chrysler's Durango SUV facility, an Allen-Bradley PLC will monitor and control 165 remote light and fan locations from a central monitoring site and communicate between all locations through an ESTeem wireless radio network.
The wireless modem providing the communications for this application is the ESTeem Model 192S, 2.4 GHz spread spectrum radio. This radio modem allows high-speed communications to remote locations without requiring a radio site license. The ESTeem Model 192S directly interfaces with the Allen-Bradley PLC's for seamless integration and fast start-up. The 192S has an integral protocol driver that allows any remote location to act as a repeater. This feature greatly reduced the overall number of radio modems required for coverage and provided excellent radio coverage in difficult communication areas. EST is a member of the Rockwell Automation Encompass(R) program that references third party complementary products that solve the industrial automation needs of mutual customers for an enhanced solution.
