Local Shell and Texaco Stations Name Recipients of 'Pump-a-Penny' Flood Relief Funds; Nine Agencies to Share $110,000 in Funding for Back-to-School Items

HOUSTON, Aug. 3 The following was released today by Motiva
Enterprises LLC:

Local Shell and Texaco retailers participating in the "pump-a-penny" flood
relief fundraiser today named nine local agencies as recipients of $110,000 to
assist with back-to-school supplies for victims of Tropical Storm Allison.
Winners will be announced at a "free back-to-school shopping spree" at one of
the selected agencies, Wesley Community Center, 1410 Lee Street at 10 a.m. on
Friday, Aug. 3.
"We're proud to announce that our dealers and loyal customers raised such
a significant amount to aid in flood relief," said Greg Shockey, general
manager, Gulf Coast region for the Shell and Texaco brands. "Many of these
victims are still working on home repairs and haven't had a chance to think
about back-to-school. We hope this will help the children of flood victims
feel good about the start of the school year."
Agencies were selected by the extent of flood damage in the area served by
their agencies, for their established back-to-school programs, and by the
geographic coverage of the region participating in the fundraiser. Recipients
are:

-- Boys and Girls Club, Inc.
    -- Chicano Family Center
    -- Christian Community Service Center
    -- Houston Area Urban League
    -- Humble Assistance Ministries
    -- Neighborhood Centers, Inc.
    -- North Channel Ministry Alliance
    -- Northwest Assistance Ministries
    -- Wesley Community Center

"We are grateful to the Shell/Texaco retailers' Pump-a-Penny Flood Relief
program for the donation to help us provide school supplies for the children
of families affected by the flood in our area," said Ruth Palmer, executive
director of Wesley Community Center.
"School supplies are an annual concern for us, and it is great to have a
generous partner to make it possible for us to send many children to school
this year with the supplies they need. The children and their families join
me in saying, 'thank you!'"
Almost 250 participating Houston area Shell and Texaco stations raised
$110,000 by donating one penny per gallon of gasoline sold between June 26 and
July 6. This fundraiser is in addition to a corporate donation from an
alliance of Shell and Texaco of more than $250,000 worth of emergency supplies
and financial support to the community and to the American Red Cross in the
week following the storm.
The alliance companies of Motiva Enterprises LLC, Equilon Enterprises LLC,
Equiva Services LLC and Equiva Trading LLC employ approximately 4,000 people
in the Houston area.
