Rubber Industry's Longest Strike May Be Nearing End
QUINCY, Ill., Aug. 2 Titan International, Inc.
acknowledges that Titan Tire Corporation in Des Moines, Iowa, and the United
Steelworkers of America (USWA) leadership have reached a tentative agreement
on the terms and conditions of a five year plus contract.
To become effective, the USWA Local 164 membership must ratify the
proposal and some outstanding issues must be resolved, including a
back-to-work agreement.
"It is in everyone's best interest to conclude this matter," explained
Maurice Taylor Jr., Titan president and CEO. "I remain cautiously optimistic
but Titan will have no further comment until the membership has voted on
ratification of the proposal."
Titan is a global supplier of mounted wheel and tire systems for off-
highway equipment used in agriculture, earthmoving/construction, and consumer
applications (i.e. all terrain vehicles and trailers). Titan has
manufacturing and distribution facilities worldwide.
