Chrysler Group Reports U.S. July Sales
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Aug. 1 Chrysler Group reported U.S.
sales of 185,598 units in July 2001, compared to 191,466 in July 2000, a
decline of three percent.
Dodge Ram sales lead the way with 37,133 units -- an increase of 21
percent compared to July 2000. "Strong Dodge Ram truck sales are an
encouraging sign," said Gary Dilts, Senior Vice President - Sales. "Our
dealers are selling out of the current Ram, making room for the all-new 2002
Dodge Ram, which will be in showrooms later this fall."
Jeep(R) Liberty sales remain strong, selling 10,562 units in July, up 24
percent compared to last month when there were 8,884 sales. "As production
and dealer inventories increase, we look for even stronger Jeep Liberty
sales," added Dilts. "Customers are telling us they like Jeep Liberty's
versatility and its bold styling."
Chrysler Town & Country set a new sales record for July, selling 10,648
units, beating the previous July record set in 1996 by 3,183 units.
Other July sales highlights:
* Total minivan sales of 32,949 units were up one percent, compared to
July 2000.
* PT Cruiser sales of 10,697 units were up six percent, compared to June
2001.
* Chrysler Sebring Convertible sales of 3,242 units were up eight
percent, compared to July 2000.
* Chrysler Sebring Coupe sales of 1,145 units were up 93 percent,
compared to July 2000.
* Chrysler Prowler sales of 125 units were up 26 percent, compared to
June 2001.
* Chrysler-branded truck sales of 25,057 were up seven percent, compared
to July 2000.
* Dodge Stratus Sedan sales of 5,317 units were up 40 percent over July
2000.
Inventory for July 2001 decreased to a 59-day supply, compared to a 74-day
supply in July 2000. Chrysler Group reduced inventories in July 2001 to
433,495 units, a 24 percent reduction from July 2000, when it had 569,180
units in inventory.
