American Suzuki Bucks Industry Trend With Six Percent Sales Increase for Year-to-Date

    BREA, Calif., Aug. 1 American Suzuki Motor Corporation
(ASMC) Automotive Division posted a six percent year-to-date sales increase
over 2000 sales, with sales of 38,894 units this year.  ASMC's six percent
increase stands apart from the majority of industry manufacturers who
experienced decreased sales year-to-date.
    "Our sales are bolstered with the addition of the XL-7 to our line.  With
its affordable retail price, combined with the low operating costs, the
seven-passenger XL-7 provides excellent overall value in a quality SUV -- both
to buy and to own, said Gary Anderson, vice president of automotive sales.
"XL-7 buyers know the big picture -- not only is the XL-7 thousands of dollars
less to buy and to own than the competition, it offers a full complement of
safety and comfort features."
    The Automotive Division of American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC), in
Brea, Calif., was founded in 1985 by Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC).  ASMC
markets automobiles in the United States through a network of more than
400 automotive dealerships in 49 states.
    ASMC's parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, is a diversified
worldwide manufacturer, selling a variety of vehicles in 191 countries.
Founded in 1920, it is based in Hamamatsu, Japan.
