HOUSTON, TX USA 02/27/2001
HOUSTON, Aug. 2 Compaq Computer Corporation today announced that DaimlerChrysler has named Compaq as the winner of its first Global Supplier Award. The award was presented at DaimlerChrysler's "ITM Supplier Day 2001" in Stuttgart, Germany, before an audience of approximately 200 suppliers from around the world. Sue Unger, CIO and senior vice president of DaimlerChrysler, recognized Compaq as a partner that consistently delivers total, global customer satisfaction. Compaq provides DaimlerChrysler with global enterprise services and support, including support for many high-end systems. DaimlerChrysler, the world's third-largest automaker, recognized Compaq specifically for its program which consolidated servers and storage for 17,000 users into a Microsoft Windows 2000 environment -- doubling storage space, centralizing hardware and delivering long-term decreases in IT spending. Other benefits included increased functionality, flexibility, and high system availability of a minimum of 99.95 percent. The modularity of the solution enables easy replication at any DaimlerChrysler location at any time. "Compaq has really delivered superior customer value for us," said Unger of DaimlerChrysler. "It provided us with an integrated, comprehensive business solution, and could back this up with the muscle of an experienced global services organization. Compaq's ability to meet the ever-evolving needs of DaimlerChrysler in the global marketplace will help us achieve our most critical business objectives." "The receipt of the Global Supplier Award from DaimlerChrysler not only gives us a great deal of pleasure, but reinforces Compaq's commitment to solving customers' problems through reduced complexity, a faster time to solution and a more rapid return on IT investment," says Peter Mark Droste, general manager and vice president, Compaq Germany.
