Peregrine Systems® Offers Fleet Maintenance Software with Access Through the
Web
SAN DIEGO, July 31, 2001 -- Peregrine Systems, Inc., whose FleetAnywhere®
software allows customers to manage and track maintenance for fleets ranging
in size from 200 to 85,000 vehicles, has announced a new offering --
FleetAnywhere Weblications.
FleetAnywhere Weblications allows customers to enter vehicle maintenance
data, from off-site service/maintenance locations, directly over the Web, or
through a company intranet.
"FleetAnywhere Weblication screens have been designed to require a minimum
amount of data entry while maintaining the robust functionality of
FleetAnywhere," said Meg Davis, Peregrine's Product Marketing Director for
the Transportation product line. "They're great cost- and time-saving
products for fleet managers. Since the screens are browser-based, the
program is very user-friendly. This not only increases efficiency for
fleets, but also decreases training time required before new users can start
using the system. Being browser-based also reduces the load on IT
departments because they no longer have to install a GUI (graphical user
interface) on every computer."
The FleetAnywhere Weblications address the most common work processes in a
fleet environment. The Weblications available include Base Work Order and
Complaints, Rental Pool Reservations, Vendor Invoice Payment and Direct and
Rental Billing.
Florida Power & Light Company was one of the first fleets to order
FleetAnywhere with the base work order Weblication offering. The utility,
which operates and maintains 3,800 pieces of equipment -- from executive
cars to cherry pickers and bucket trucks -- operates 19 garages, plus
employs 21 mobile mechanics who use hand-held devices to enter data.
"What's more, we work with a number of small-and mid-size businesses which
work with our fleet," said George Survant, director of fleet services. "One
of the attractive features of FleetAnywhere is the ability to have our
vendors use our system online. This is a very big piece of the puzzle for
us -- it will save us time spent re-entering information, accuracy will be
improved, and we'll have information in real-time."
According to Survant, cost control is a critical issue for Florida Power &
Light. "Utilities used to adjust rates based on costs," he said. "But
that¹s changed -- we're now a market-sensitive organization, more in line
with the private sector where maintenance costs must be highly managed and
expenses justified. After researching our options, we felt FleetAnywhere
represented the leading edge in data management. It can evolve as our tasks
evolve; it's very flexible. It will allow us to have in-depth analysis of
data, and it will provide us with a decision-making tool so we can have the
best managed fleet possible."
Peregrine deployed the Fleet Invoice Weblication about a year ago with
another large fleet with more than 50,000 vehicles. "The payback for this
customer was tremendous," Davis said. "The company had several service
locations. And data entry alone, prior to putting the Fleet Invoice
Weblication in place, meant mounds of paperwork plus less-than-real-time
information. After implementing the FleetAnywhere Invoice Weblication, this
company's savings in labor costs and efficiency meant a return-on-investment
of less than four months.
"In the past, off-site locations had to send in their information -- work
orders with parts and labor information, for example -- to a main office and
have that data entered into the system," Davis continued. "Now, that step
can be eliminated. Service and parts people can log onto a secure website
and enter information in real-time. This gives a manager complete control
of maintenance issues and costs. From an information standpoint, it's as if
all off-site maintenance locations became one."
FleetAnywhere supplies fleet management software solutions to hundreds of
customers, including Fortune 1000 companies in manufacturing and
distribution, transportation, utilities, transit and government
organizations. The FleetAnywhere solution removes the friction points from
processes that can be cumbersome or obstacle laden. For more than 20 years,
the FleetAnywhere product line has provided fleet-specific maintenance
