August 1, 2001Looking for Blackjack: Bobby Hamilton will be making his 21st start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP), and he is hoping that the decision to pull double duty this week will produce his second win of the year.
Hamilton will be traveling back and forth between the Brickyard and IRP on Friday, practicing and qualifying the Square D Andy Petree Racing NASCAR Winston Cup car, and the No. 4 Dana Dodge Ram Truck. If any problems in the schedule do occur, then Sammy Sanders will be on hand to get the truck into the race.
Sanders is a close personal friend of Hamilton. He works as a fabricator at Bobby Hamilton Racing, but this week he will also be serving as Hamilton's crew chief. Sanders has one NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start to his credit at Kentucky Speedway, driving the No. 4 Truck for Hamilton earlier this year.
Dr. Pepper Crew: Hamilton will have the No. 26 Dave Carroll Motorsports Dr. Pepper crew pitting his Dana Dodge this weekend at Indianapolis Raceway Park. The Dr. Pepper Racing car is driven in the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series by Bobby Hamilton Jr., hence the relationship between the two teams.
Statistics: Hamilton enters the weekend fourth overall in laps led and miles led. He currently has led 258 laps for a total of 240.71 miles. Hamilton moved up to the 38th position in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver points standings after competing two weeks ago in New Hampshire. The No. 4 Team is 36th in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series owner's points standings.
One of Only Four: Hamilton is one of only four drivers to win a race in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series, and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The others are Terry Labonte, Mark Martin, and Ken Schrader.
