TRW Names Robert H. Swan Chief Financial Officer

CLEVELAND--July 31, 2001--Robert H. Swan, 41, has been named executive vice president and chief financial officer of TRW Inc. , effective immediately, according to David M. Cote, chairman, president, and chief executive officer.
Since April Swan has been chief executive officer of Webvan Group, Inc., an Internet retailer established to offer home delivery of groceries and other consumer products. He joined the company in October 1999 as vice president for finance and subsequently served as chief financial officer and chief operating officer.
Prior to Webvan, Swan spent 14 years at General Electric Company, most recently as chief financial officer of GE Lighting, a $3.5 billion global business. He also served as vice president for finance of GE Medical Systems in Europe and chief financial officer of GE Transportation Systems. During his time at GE, Swan spent more than six years in the company's corporate audit staff and completed the Financial Management Program.
At TRW Swan will be responsible for TRW's domestic and international financial operations, treasury, taxes, investor relations, internal audit, shareholder services, risk management, pension accounting, and information systems. In addition, he will be responsible for the business development function.
"I am delighted to welcome Bob Swan to TRW's senior management ranks," said Cote. "He had a stellar track record at GE, rising to CFO for a major global business. In his two years at Webvan, he gained valuable experience with a start-up business and dealing with the external financial community. With his drive, knowledge, and entrepreneurial attitude, Bob will quickly get up to speed and make important contributions to TRW's businesses.
"His people skills and track record of making and keeping commitments, combined with his understanding of and experience in finance, operations, and start-ups, will serve TRW well as we grow the business," Cote said.
Carl G. Miller, who served as CFO for the past six years, announced his retirement in April. "Carl has contributed significantly to the company and has proven himself in a variety of challenging assignments. We wish him well," Cote said.
Swan holds a B.S. in management from the State University of New York at Buffalo and an MBA from the State University of New York in Binghamton. He and his family will be relocating to the Cleveland area soon.
