ARCA TRUCKS: Guinn wins at Lorain County

July 31, 2001SOUTH AMHERST OH– Last year’s ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series rookie of the year Chad Guinn proved himself a veteran Saturday night at Lorain County Speedway. The Erie, Michigan driver scored his second win this season and eighth of his career after stealing the lead from Old Milwaukee Pole Award winner Jeff Speakman on lap 56 of the 100-lap event.
“It feels great,” Guinn said. “It feels like it’s been forever since our last win in the BFI Waste Systems-Coastal Coating Systems-Northland Collision Ford Ranger. I have to thank my team, my parents Larry and Vicki, and my crew chief, Chuck Carroll, for the victory.”
Guinn's latest victory makes him the all-time ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series winner over defending champion Robbin Slaughter, who has seven.
Speakman, of Piqua, Ohio, earned the Cloyes Gear Halfway Leader honors, but a loose truck and lapped traffic shoved him back to second place. “We had a good truck the first 50 laps, but we got tied up behind lapped traffic,” Speakman said. “Then it got a little loose on us. Guinn just had a better truck at the end of the race. We blew a motor at Dixie, so we had to put a new motor in the Pennzoil-National Auto Lube-Dick’s Paint and Body Shop Ford Ranger before Lorain. We were just happy to see the checkered flag.”
Columbus, Ohio’s Bill Withers, the 1999 ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series champion, finished a close third in the Mannings USA-Hall Electronics Ford. Veteran driver Joe Wormcastle, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, took fourth in the Witwer Racing-Axe Chassis Chevrolet while the Carmen’s Vacuum-Napa Auto Parts Ford of Robbin Slaughter rounded out the top five.
Dayton, Ohio driver Eugene Crase grabbed sixth place in the Weiler Welding Ford, narrowly beating rookie sensation Brett Oakley in the MAR-FLEX Products-Tegtmeyer’s Ford. Oakley's seventh place finish earned the Middletown, Ohio driver the Ed & Company Hard Charger award for advancing the most positions. The Spangler Candy Company Dum Dum Pops Chevy S-10 of Tully Esterline finished eighth, making Lorain the fourth top-ten finish this year for the Pettisville, Ohio driver. Kyle Witwer and David Clay completed the top-ten.
On the road again, the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series takes on the paved quarter-mile oval of New Paris Speedway in New Paris, Indiana for a 100-lap feature on Saturday, August 4. The series will then pair-up with the Indy Racing League at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky on Friday, August 11 for an event on the Kentucky quarter-mile oval.
