Oshkosh's Newest Model to Protect Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark Airports

    OSHKOSH, Wis.--July 30, 2001--

Oshkosh Receives $11.2 Million Order for 22 Striker(TM) ARFF Trucks
from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey

Oshkosh Truck Corporation , a leading manufacturer of specialty trucks and truck bodies, was awarded a $11.2 million contract for 22 Striker(TM) airport rescue and fire fighting (ARFF) vehicles. The trucks were purchased as part of a complete ARFF fleet replacement and upgrade program. They will be used at all three of the Port Authority's major airports - John F. Kennedy International, Newark International, and LaGuardia - which served 92 million passengers last year.
The Striker is Oshkosh's revolutionary new model that sets a new standard in performance and firepower in the demanding ARFF industry. The Port Authority is taking delivery of 14 units with 3,000-gallon water capacity and eight with 1,500-gallon water capacity.
"The New York and New Jersey Port Authority has given Oshkosh and the Striker a huge vote of confidence with one of the largest ARFF orders ever. We're proud to equip their airports with the most advanced ARFF technology and continue our tradition of excellence in performance and service," said Robert G. Bohn, Oshkosh's chairman, president and chief executive officer.
The 14 Striker 3000 models are equipped with ample 3,000-gallon water tanks. Seven of the units feature Snozzle(R) high-reach extendable turrets, while the others are equipped with 1,000-gallon-per-minute roof turrets. All 14 units feature Rhino(R) high-volume bumper turrets that can discharge 1200 gallons per minute. The Snozzle and Rhino products are manufactured by Crash Rescue Equipment Services of Dallas, Texas.
The Port Authority's eight Striker 1500 models are considered rapid intervention vehicles and carry 1500 gallons of water. These are equipped with high volume bumper turrets that can discharge 750 gallons per minute. They will be used primarily for initial emergency response.
All of the units feature Oshkosh's TAK-4(TM) independent suspension, all-wheel drive, driver enhanced vision systems, and a monitoring and data acquisition system that monitors vehicle operating parameters. The power train includes a Twin Disc(R) TD61-1180 electronic, automatic transmission and a 650-horsepower Caterpillar(R) diesel engine.
And, the Striker series is fast. The 6x6 model can charge to 50 mph (80 km/h) in 35 seconds when loaded with 3,000 gallons of water. The smaller Striker 1500 offers the ultimate in fast emergency response, speeding from 0 to 50 mph within 25 seconds with a full load. The static side slope stability for all models is at least 30 degrees.
The new Strikers will undergo rigorous performance testing prior to delivery on such criteria as acceleration, braking dynamic stability and agent discharge rates. The Striker meets or exceeds the FAA Advisory Circular 150/5220-10C, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) requirements, and the proposed National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard 414, entitled Standard for Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Vehicles. The proposed NFPA rules call for faster acceleration and greater side slope stability to enhance safety and response times.
The New York and New Jersey Port Authority has been using Oshkosh ARFF vehicles since 1988. Delivery of the 22 new apparatus is scheduled to begin in spring 2002.
