Petro Stopping Centers L.P. Announces Q2 2001 Results

EL PASO, Texas--July 30, 2001--Petro Stopping Centers L.P., one of the nation's leading operators of high-quality, full-service travel plazas with 58 locations, today announced its operating results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2001.
Revenues for the second quarter 2001 were $239.3 million as compared to $231.1 million for the second quarter of 2000. The net loss for the quarter was $899,000 as compared to net income of $3.5 million for the same period last year, due to lower operating income and higher interest expense including the write-off of certain deferred debt issuance costs. Same store EBITDA for the period decreased to $9.0 million, while overall EBITDA decreased to $9.8 million, due primarily to a slow down in trucking activity and the economy. No provision for income taxes is reflected in the Company's financial statements because of its organization as a partnership.
Petro's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Jack Cardwell, said, "Although tough economic conditions this year make it difficult for the Company to exceed last year's results, we are focused on ensuring that the Company operates as efficiently as possible so we are prepared to capitalize on a rebound in the economy."
