Ward's Reports Estimated Production

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., July 27 -- Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 322,364 units, up from the 277,762 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's Automotive Reports. Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 9,137,959 vehicles, down 12.9 percent from like-2000's pace. In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 238,792 vehicles this week, up 16.9 percent from the 204,185 cars and trucks built last week. To date, calendar 2001 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 6,557,662 units, down 14.0 percent from the 7,626,561 vehicles built in like-2000. This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 48,559, a 39.3 percent increase from the 34,853 units assembled last week. Estimated calendar-2001 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,501,112 units, down 15.7 percent compared to the 1,779,698 vehicles produced in like-2000. Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S., General Motors Corp. accounted for 34.7 percent; Ford Motor Co., 33.2 percent; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 12.5 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 5.9 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.2 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 0.0 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.2 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 1.9 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.7 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.8 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.7 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 1.0 percent; and other manufacturers, 1.2 percent.
