Two Motion Industries Sales Reps Named Among Top 14 in Country by Purchasing Magazine

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--July 25, 2001--Two Motion Industries outside sales reps, Mark E. Gutekunst and Gary Roughton, have been listed among the top 14 salespeople in the country by Purchasing Magazine in their annual poll of purchasing executives, according to Mark Sheehan, Motion Industries' Group Vice President for North, East, and Southeast Divisions.
The poll asked purchasing professionals throughout the country to nominate outstanding salespeople in their field. Considerations included thoroughness, follow-through, market knowledge, overall efficiency in the supply chain, response time in emergency situations and willingness to go the extra mile.
"Our salespeople are dedicated and committed to providing top-level service and product solutions to our customers," Sheehan said. "Being included in this list affirms that attention to detail, concise concentrated effort and added value to the customer are highly respected traits in our salespeople."
Gutekunst operates out of Motion Industries' Lancaster, Pa., branch. According to the March issue of Purchasing Magazine, H. Allen Grow, director of purchasing, Pennsylvania Steel Technologies, praises Gutekunst for personally driving to regional distribution centers to pick up breakdown items on various nights and weekends. Also, Gutekunst suggested new products for substitution during a review of Pennsylvania Steel's vendors' guaranteed cost reductions. In addition, he sourced a new fabric bearing and, together with Grow, developed specs to meet Pennsylvania Steel's changing requirements. Grow estimated a cost savings of $20,000 on the fabric bearing, and notes that Pennsylvania Steel has reduced its changeout in half each year that Gutekunst has been working with the company.
Roughton, outside sales, operating out of Motion's Defiance, Ohio, branch, is known for serving his customers no matter the time of day, to assist in emergency/breakdown situations. According to his nominator at Midwest Stamping Company, by judicious product selection Roughton has contributed numerous cost savings, including $4,000 on one part in the first year alone. Roughton's nominator went on to say that he exemplifies professionalism, with deliberate and timely service.
With 2000 sales in excess of $2.34 billion, Motion Industries is the world's largest distributor of bearings, mechanical power transmission, electrical power transmission and fluid power transmission replacement parts, and hose products. Motion Industries, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Genuine Parts Company , has more than 500 operations including nine distribution centers throughout North America and services more than 150,000 customers including automotive, chemical, food, beverage, wood/lumber, iron, oil, pulp and paper, steel and textile industries.
