Ceradyne Inc. Opens Detroit Office

COSTA MESA, Calif.--July 25, 2001--Ceradyne Inc. today announced it has opened an office in Detroit and hired Michael J. Kurilla to manage operations for that office.
Kurilla has more than 20 years of experience in the automotive area, primarily with North American and global automotive suppliers supporting large U.S. automobile companies. Kurilla's experience includes business strategy and managing operations for a wide variety of Detroit-based design and implementation projects related to automobiles, custom limousines and special vehicles.
David Reed, Ceradyne vice president, remarked: "For some time, Ceradyne has believed that the market for its advanced technical ceramic products in the automotive arena could more rapidly be developed with an 'on the ground' presence in Detroit. The opportunity to hire a manager with the vehicle-related experience of Michael Kurilla proved the catalyst for Ceradyne's decision to locate an office in Detroit to serve this high-potential market."
Ceradyne develops, manufactures and markets advanced technical ceramics for industrial, electronic, defense and consumer applications. Additional information about the company can be found at the company's Web site at www.ceradyne.com.

This press release contains forward-looking statements regarding future events and the future performance of Ceradyne that involve risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially. These risks and uncertainties are described in the company's Annual Report on Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2000, as filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
