#55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Reynard
Michigan 500 - Race Notes/Quotes - Sunday, July 22, 2001
Michigan Speedway - Brooklyn, Mich. - 2-Mile Tri-Oval
Round 11 of 21 on the 2001 CART FedEx Championship Series

Tony Kanaan and his #55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Reynard retired on
Lap 180 of today's Michigan 500 with electrical problems, the same fate
encountered on the same lap by his teammate Alex Zanardi and the #66
Pioneer-WorldCom/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Reynard.

Kanaan, who started fifth, was running third when he began experiencing a
misfire and pitted on Lap 151 for a new battery. He pitted several more
times as the crew attempted to remedy the problem, preliminarily diagnosed
as an alternator failure. He coasted into the pits on Lap 180, now six laps
behind the leaders, and was forced to call it a day.

The next race on the schedule is next weekend's Target Grand Prix (July
27-29) at Chicago Motor Speedway, Round 12 of the 21-race CART FedEx
Championship Series for 2001.

TONY KANAAN

"It's really a shame what happened because I definitely had a car that could
have won the race. I was playing with the guys at the front all race long.
But then we developed the problem and that was the end of it. Hey, I think
we're knocking on the door of our first win as a team, so we have to keep
our heads up and not let up."
