Ward's Reports Estimated Production

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., July 20 Vehicle production this week in
the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 303,440 units, up
from the 120,805 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's
Automotive Reports.
    Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 8,842,858 vehicles, down 12.9 percent from like-2000's pace.
    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 228,962 vehicles this
week, up 204.2 percent from the 75,269 cars and trucks built last week.  To
date, calendar 2001 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 6,343,753 units,
down 14.0 percent from the 7,373,006 vehicles built in like-2000.
    This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 35,977, a 205.2
percent increase from the 11,787 units assembled last week.  Estimated
calendar-2001 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,455,156 units, down
15.8 percent compared to the 1,728,724 vehicles produced in like-2000.
    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 35.7 percent; Ford Motor Co., 36.2 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 11.2 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.1
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 0.0 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 0.0
percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.3 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 1.7 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.8 percent;
AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.8 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of
DaimlerChrysler, 0.7 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 1.0 percent; and
other manufacturers, 1.5 percent.
