July 19, 2001Geoffrey Bodine On Gateway International Raceway . . . "I think I will enjoy racing at St. Louis. The track is fairly flat, but shaped a lot like Darlington in that the corners are not similar. It is egg-shaped with turns one and two being a little tighter than turns three and four. Darlington is a track where I've always done well in both the Busch Series and in Winston Cup. I have three Busch wins at Darlington, and I hope that success can translate to St. Louis.
"This is a big weekend for Phillips 66. They have a lot of customers coming to the race and we want to put on a good show for them. This team has always performed well at St. Louis. They've learned a lot about racing at night at St. Louis and it translated well last year. They almost had the thing wrapped up until about 25 laps to go. I just want to get this team back in the top 10 like they are capable of doing."
Donnie Richeson On Gateway International Raceway . . . "We have only run two races during the night at St. Louis. The first year was in 1999 and it was pretty warm that year. Last year it rained and it was fairly cool during the night race. We have information about how the car may handle in both types of weather. The only question mark will be how the tires perform. We've been scratching our heads all year trying to figure out a set up that works with the tires Goodyear introduced back at the beginning of the season. If we figure that out, we'll be in good shape."
Equipment . . . "Gambler" is the car the Phillips 66 team will compete with this weekend in the "CARQUEST Auto Parts 250" at Gateway International Raceway. "Gambler" has made only four starts since making its debut at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway during the 2000 NASCAR Busch Series season. "Gambler's" best finish is a fourth-place finish at Las Vegas in 2000.
