General Chemical Group Stock Moves to Over the Counter from NYSE

    HAMPTON, N.H., July 18 The General Chemical Group Inc.
announced that following the close of the market today its common
stock will no longer trade on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Effective
with the open of the market on Thursday, July 19, the company's stock will
trade over the counter (OTC). The company's new ticker symbol is GCHG.
    The previously announced reverse split of the company's common stock was
effective at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on Friday, July 13. The
reverse split was approved by General Chemical's shareholders on May 16, 2001.
General Chemical shareholders now hold one share of common stock for every 10
shares held by them prior to the reverse split. Mellon Investor Services LLC,
General Chemical's transfer agent, is the exchange agent for the reverse
