Texas Gas Prices Show Major Decrease; AAA Texas Monthly Fuel Gauge Report
HOUSTON--July 18, 2001--Gas prices in Texas show a major decrease compared to last month's average.The current statewide average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline is $1.28, a decrease of more than 20 cents from last month's average price of $1.52 a gallon. It is also a decrease of more than 20 cents compared to last July's average of $1.51 a gallon.
The highest average price for regular in Texas can be found in Dallas at $1.46 a gallon, followed by Midland at $1.43 then Houston and Fort Worth both at $1.40.
Nationally, AAA's Fuel Gauge Report shows the average price at $1.43, down 20 cents since mid-June. This is the steepest one-month decline in fuel prices since AAA began doing monthly price reports in 1990.
"Rising inventories coupled with reduced demand have helped drive retail pump prices downward," said Rose Rougeau, a spokesperson for AAA Texas.
AAA and AAA Texas commission their Fuel Gauge Reports as a public service. The current reports are based on data gathered by the Oil Price Information Service -- the nation's most comprehensive source of petroleum pricing information.
