Ross Fonferko of Wheaton, Ill. hopes to become only the third driver in USAC history to "sweep" every race enroute to the series championship!

Sunday, Fonferko will try to add to his May 5 and June 22 victories in the 30-minute race on the 2.459-mile circuit at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. Qualifying is scheduled on Friday.

The only two previous "undefeated" USAC champions were Aaron Justus in the 2000 USAC Formula 2000 Oval Crown Championship and Jeff Andretti in the 1993 USAC Pro-Ford Championship.

David Mayhew and Victor Hugo Quieroz appear to be the strongest threats to Fonferko, trailing him by 11 and 12 points respectively in the series standings. Mayhew has recorded a second and third in the previous races, while Quieroz has been second and fourth.
