TWO NORTH VERNON RACES ADDED TO SERIES SCHEDULE

Shane Hollingsworth of Indianapolis, Ind. leads the USAC Dirt-Track Regional Midget Car Series standings after recording his second victory of the 2001 season Sunday night at the Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway.

Hollingsworth led the first 13 laps of Sunday's 25-lapper in his Concrete Connection/George's Concrete Pumping/United Insurance Agencies/TW Metals Esslinger/Beast, then yielded to Kokomo's Tony Elliott. Elliott appeared headed for a repeat of his July 1 victory until his right rear tire went flat four laps from the finish, allowing Hollingsworth to regain the lead. Joe Roush, Wayne Chinn, Blake Chinn and Ron Gregory trailed at the checkered flag, while Elliott did not finish and was officially credited with 16th place.

Hollingsworth emerged with a 15-point lead over John Wolfe in the new series standings. Wolfe was running second until the final lap when he was forced out in a first-turn tangle. He restarted and finished eighth.

The series returns to the Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway for another event on Sunday night, July 29.

Twin Cities Raceway Park in North Vernon, Ind. will be the site of USAC Dirt-Track Regional Midget Car events September 7-8 as part of a new event added to the USAC calendar today. A 25-lap feature is planned each night as the series competes in conjunction with a USAC Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Special Event on the 3/8-mile dirt oval.
