BEI Technologies Introduces MotionPak(R) II Multi-Axis MEMS Inertial Sensing System
SAN FRANCISCO, July 16 BEI Technologies, Inc. announced today the introduction of BEI Systron Donner Inertial Division's MotionPak(R) II, a next generation solid state inertial sensor system. The unit incorporates three orthogonally mounted GyroChip(R) quartz (MEMS) rate gyroscopes and three silicon accelerometers providing outputs of angular velocity (rate) and linear acceleration about three axes. These outputs are in both analog and digital format. Incorporating BEI GyroChip technology, the MotionPak II combines the latest advancements in micro-machined (MEMS) quartz-rate sensors. This low-cost unit with rugged construction and outstanding reliability is a highly attractive packaged system for design, development and production into a wide range of industrial applications, according to Dr. Asad Madni, president and chief operating officer. MotionPak II can operate from either dual bipolar (+ 15v DC) or single ended (+11 to +16v DC) supplies, providing high or low resolution outputs with dual voltage power input or low resolution when only a single sided voltage is available. The digital RS 232 output is available with either power input and the PC based Data Acquisition software is Windows 95/98 and NT 4.0 compatible. A CD-ROM supplied with each unit incorporates data logging software. Suitable for operation at temperatures from -40o C to + 85o C, the MotionPak II has an internally mounted temperature sensor should thermal compensation be desirable in the application. All connections are made via a standard 25 way 'D' type socket. The unit weighs 1.26Kg, has a small footprint of 128mm wide by 113mm high, and is 117mm deep. Four fixing ears on the base of the unit are provided for easy mounting. The versatile fully self-contained system incorporates internal power regulation and signal conditioning electronics and is designed for fast start up and long operational life. An optional carrying case provides additional protection for the unit in transit. MotionPak II potential applications include: vehicle and maritime instrumentation, GPS aiding, navigation or stabilization in robotics, automotive research and development, remote controlled vehicles, attitude reference systems, underwater, unmanned vehicles and flight-testing equipment.
