SHIELDS AND MCGLONE TAKE HOME BIG WINS AT WOODBURN

WOODBURN, Ore. - In the final results from Woodburn Dragstrip, Federal-Mogul Dragster driver Duane Shields and Federal-Mogul Funny Car driver Dan McGlone took home the honors at this weekend's Les Schwab Challenge.

Shields of Las Vegas, Nev., took on four-time national champion Rick Santos of Brentwood, Calif., in the final and laid down a 5.529-second, 256.41 mph pass to take the win on a hole shot as Santos ran a quicker 5.491 at 257.87.

Shields also took home both ends of the track record in the dragster category recording a 5.417 second pass at 261.32 in his semi-final match up against Brian Hough.

Oregon City, Ore., resident Dan McGlone was to face off against Larry Minor in the final round of funny car but wound up with a bye run as Minor blew a motor in his semi-final round win and was unable to make the call. The hometown favorite recorded a 5.973-second run at 235.91 mph in his final round bye after taking out Northwest hitter Pat Austin in round one and John Hyland in his semi-final match-up.

"This is a real big win for us," expressed McGlone. "It marks the fifth straight final we've been to (combining NHRA Federal-Mogul Series events and match races) and our first win here at Woodburn. We've recently brought on NAPA Auto Parts as a sponsor who will also be with us for the upcoming nationals in Seattle so the win definitely helps."

Winners in other categories are Jeff Lane of Northbend, Wash., in Comp; Jimmy DeFrank of Tarzana, Calif., in Super Stock; Jody Lang of Puyallup, Wash., in Stock; Ty Anderson of Vancouver, Wash., in Super Comp; Jim Houges of Phoenix, Ariz., in Super Gas; Bob Sims of Payallup, Wash., in Super Street; Tom Elliott of Mt.
