WOODLAND HILLS, Calif.--July 13, 2001--UNOVA, Inc. today announced that Alton J. Brann would retire as chairman and a member of the board of directors effective July 31, 2001.
The board nominated and elected Larry D. Brady, UNOVA's current chief executive officer, to also become its chairman effective Aug. 1, 2001.
Brann, who had been expected to retire at the end of the year, suggested the earlier retirement date consistent with the successful transfer of all of his responsibilities to his planned successor, Brady.
Brann served as chairman and CEO of UNOVA from the time of its spinoff from Western Atlas Inc. in October 1997 until September 2000, when Brady was elected CEO. Prior to UNOVA, Brann was chairman and CEO of Western Atlas from March 1994 through October 1997, and president and CEO of Litton Industries, Inc. from December 1992 until Western Atlas was spun off from Litton in March 1994.
"Throughout his 28-year career with UNOVA and its predecessors, Al Brann demonstrated the leadership and personal integrity necessary to guide the organization through both successful and challenging times," said Brady.
"His vision helped establish UNOVA as a true global corporation in all its segments, and his technical insights drove key investments in innovative new technologies such as RFID, which provide an important foundation for the future."
Brady, 59, joined UNOVA in August 1999 as president and chief operating officer. He was elected a director of UNOVA one month later and was subsequently elected CEO of UNOVA in September 2000. Prior to joining UNOVA, Brady was president of FMC Corp.
Brady received a bachelor of science degree in engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and is a Baker Scholar from Harvard Business School, Boston, where he earned his master of business administration degree.
He serves as a director of Pactiv Corp. and is a member of the Advisory Board of Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, the Board of Trustees of the National Merit Scholarship Corp. and the Executive Committee of the National Association of Manufacturers.
UNOVA is a leading supplier of mobile computing and wireless network products for non-office applications and of manufacturing systems technologies primarily for the automotive and aerospace industries.
