Ward's Reports Estimated Production

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., July 13 Vehicle production this week in
the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 158,096 units, up
from the 107,737 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's
Automotive Reports.
    Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 8,585,931 vehicles, down 12.9 percent from like-2000's pace.
    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 96,953 vehicles this week,
up 82.1 percent from the 53,255 cars and trucks built last week.  To date,
calendar 2001 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 6,138,786 units, down
14.2 percent from the 7,154,596 vehicles built in like-2000.
    This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 25,018, a 36.3
percent increase from the 18,357 units assembled last week.  Estimated
calendar-2001 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,436,945 units, down
15.1 percent compared to the 1,692,799 vehicles produced in like-2000.
    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 7.3 percent; Ford Motor Co., 0.0 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 39.9 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 14.4
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 12.0 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 7.2
percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 7.5 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 0.0 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 4.2 percent;
AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.0 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of
DaimlerChrysler, 1.7 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 2.4 percent; and
other manufacturers, 3.4 percent.
