Buick Park Avenue Sponsors 2001 National Senior Summer Games

DETROIT -- The Buick Park Avenue Brand Team has joined with the National Senior Games Association (NSGA) and is the automotive sponsor of this summer's 2001 National Senior Games. The games attract top amateur athletes over the age of 50 from around the country.

The games will be held in Baton Rouge, La., July 14-28. More than 9,300 athletes representing every state are participating, and more than 20,000 spectators are expected to attend. Events include basketball, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field and volleyball.

"It's no secret that people over 50 today are more active and more fit than previous generations, and these athletes epitomize this lifestyle change," said Annette K. Smith, Park Avenue brand manager. "I've had the opportunity to see first-hand the ability of the participants and the level of competition at these games. They are truly amazing athletes and set a benchmark that few of us can achieve."

Smith sees a parallel between Park Avenue and the athletes of the National Senior Games. "As Buick's flagship sedan, Park Avenue provides buyers a level of luxury unmatched in its price range. The athletes who participate in the National Senior Summer Games also stand out among their peers," she said. "We're very pleased to be part of this event and associated with these outstanding individuals."

The Park Avenue Brand Team also is recognizing the top national NSGA volunteer for his or her efforts on behalf of the association and the games. An award will be presented by Smith on July 22 during the games' Celebration of Athletes. The national award winner has been selected from nominations submitted by NSGA state coordinators as someone who best exemplifies reliability, drive and performance. The winner receives two roundtrip airline tickets to the games, on-site accommodations and a commemorative plaque.
