Nissan Responds to Discrimination Allegations by Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr.
GARDENIA, Calif., July 12 The following is a statement from Nissan regarding the discrimination allegations by Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr.: We highly value the excellent relationships we have with organizations such as the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition. We have met with Reverend Jackson's staff recently and have been complimented by them on our level of success in diversity efforts compared to other transplant automotive manufacturers, along with our commitment to diversity in its employee populations, supplier base, and dealer body. Nissan recognizes that diversity is an important element of our customer base and work force, and our commitment to fairness is strong. Nissan strongly refutes claims of racial discrimination in auto financing. Our release of July 10th outlined the grossly flawed methodology and conclusions of the Cohen study in relation to the Cason v NMAC pending lawsuit. Two additional experts' reports are due to be filed next week, which further explain why the plaintiffs' claims are factually untrue. The land acquisition from private landowners in Canton, MS is solely the responsibility of the State of Mississippi. Nissan has not been involved in the negotiations, pricing or purchase of any portion of the project site. Nissan anticipates a fair and equitable settlement reached between landowners and the State.
