Tomkins Appoints New Head of Corporate Affairs

    LONDON--July 12, 2001--Tomkins PLC today announces the appointment of Stephen Devany as Head of Corporate Communications, incorporating Investor Relations, with effect from August 1, 2001. Stephen, aged 47, was Head of Corporate Affairs for Hilton Group plc (formerly Ladbroke Group PLC) until last August.
    A Cambridge University graduate, Stephen qualified as an accountant with Coopers and Lybrand. He began a career in industry, later becoming Head of Corporate Affairs for Foseco Minsep plc. He subsequently joined Carter Valin Pollen, a specialist investor relations agency, before moving to Hill & Knowlton in London as Head of the firm's Financial Public Relations operation.
    Stephen joined Hilton Group in 1992 and left last year with the retirement of its chief executive Peter George. Since that time he has been working with some voluntary sector organizations, latterly the Countryside Alliance.
