STEVE CHRISTIAN, LATEST SOUTHERN DIVISION WINNER, HOPES FOR 1-2-3 WEEKEND
AT JENNERSTOWN

JENNERSTOWN, PA -- Steve Christian has a trio of reasons to want to win the
United States Racing Association (USAR) Hooters ProCup Northern Division
race Saturday at Jennerstown Speedway.

First, he just likes to win.  "Hey, I'm a racer, and I race to win," he says.

Second, his #16 Ford sponsor (Lucas Oil Products) is also sponsoring the
event - the Lucas Oil Products 250.  "My sponsor needs more exposure in the
North," he says.

Third, this is his only chance to look at the slightly-banked half-mile
oval before Round 2 of the Hooters ProCup "Four Champions Challenge" race
on Sept. 28th at Jennerstown Speedway.  During those five events, the
top-25 drivers in Southern and Northern Division points will converge on
tracks in Illinois, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, North Carolina and
Florida to determine the overall USAR ProCup Series 2001 Champion.  

So, despite the fact that he can't earn any points at Jennerstown because
he's registered in the Southern Division, Christian will be on a mission to
best a stellar field in the 250-lap event.  He is fresh his first Southern
Division victory of the season, coming last week in Montgomery, AL.

"I think a number of the top Southern division drivers will be at
Jennerstown because they want to look at the track, too," says Christian,
of Buford, GA.  "It's going to be a great race, and the September race will
be even greater.  

"I've never seen Jennerstown except on TV, but I've talked to some friends
who have run ASA (American Speed Association) races at Jennerstown, and
they've told me a lot about setup and how to run the track," Christian
says.  "The Northern (division) guys who ran there in April will only give
us limited information, like how smooth the track is.  So we're going to
run as hard as we can and try to win the thing, but learn the track for
September."

Both Jennerstown races are important to Christian.  This weekend's race
will pay $10,000 to win. The September event will help determine the
overall series champion.  Christian is currently third in Southern points,
but only 34 points separate the top five.

Spectator gates will open at 4 p.m., with Hooters ProCup time trials at 5
p.m., and an autograph session at 6 p.m.  The Lucas Oil Products 250 is set
for a 7 p.m. start, and will pay $10,000 to win.  Tickets will be available
at the gate. Adults are $20, ages 12-15 are $10 and under age 12 are free.
