Toyota Certified Used Vehicle Program Announces All-Time Best-Ever Sales Month

    TORRANCE, Calif., July 11 Toyota Motor Sales (TMS),
U.S.A., Inc., today reported record sales of Toyota Certified Used Vehicles,
surpassing the previous mark set just last month.
    June sales of Toyota Certified Used Vehicles totaled 16,951, an increase
of 21.9 percent over last June.  All 12 Toyota sales regions and distributors
reported their best-ever June with six setting all-time sales records.
Calendar-year-to-date certified sales total 90,542, up 14.3 percent over the
same period last year.
    "Toyota is the number one selling certified used vehicle in America," said
Ron Broughman, TMS corporate manager of used vehicle operations.  "With more
than 580,000 sales behind us, a strong group of dealers and a rigorous
certification process, we're confident that we'll continue to stay ahead of
the competition."
    Last month, Toyota contracted with AutoTrader.com to post all of their
Certified Used Vehicle listings on the company's classified Web site.
    "AutoTrader.com gives us exposure to over 1.5 million searches each month
for used Toyotas, and that's what we like about the site," said Broughman.
"This is just another example of the marketing support we are giving our
dealers to keep them in the number one certified sales position."
    The Toyota Certified Used Vehicle program, established in 1996, continues
to provide one of the best pre-owned warranties in the industry.  The
warranty, from date of first use, includes six-year, 100,000-mile limited
powertrain coverage, as well as an optional comprehensive 100,000-mile vehicle
service agreement.  And, 24-hour roadside assistance also is provided free of
charge for one year.
    All 1996-2001 models with less than 65,000 miles are eligible for the
program.  Prior to sale, each vehicle receives a rigorous 128-point inspection
of all mechanical and safety functions, as well as overall appearance
considerations.  The Prius receives an additional 15-point inspection of its
hybrid components.
