NOTES OF INTEREST:  The Friday night Blue Grass Quality Meats 200, which
serves as a show-opener for the next-day NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
Kroger 225, will be the first ARCA RE/MAX Series race held under the
lights at Kentucky Speedway. In 3 ARCA RE/MAX Series races at Kentucky,
there have been 3 different winners: Tim Steele (7-2-00), Ryan Newman
(8-26-00) and most recently Frank Kimmel (5-12-01). At present, over 40
drivers representing 17 states are entered for this year’s 200-miler.
Leading the way is defending champion and current point leader Frank
Kimmel as well as 3-time ARCA RE/MAX Series champion Tim Steele
(currently 2nd in points) ahead of Penndel, PA veteran Andy Belmont.
Third-generation driver Jason Jarrett (won the inaugural event at the
new Kansas Speedway on June 2) is also entered as is NASCAR Craftsman
Truck Series regular Billy Bigley who won the ARCA RE/MAX race in
Memphis in June of this year in his first series start. Local Walton KY
favorite Willie Green is also entered. Green had a career-best finish of
5th with the RE/MAX Series in May of this year at Kentucky. Other
notable entrants include 2nd-generation driver Todd Bowsher coming off a
career-best finish of 7th last week on the Watkins Glen Int’l road
course; former NFL head coach and current TV analyst Jerry Glanville
entered in the Fricker’s Ford. Glanville is another driver coming off a
career-best finish: 4th in June at Michigan Int’l Speedway. Additional
RE/MAX Series regulars entered include Soddy Daisy, TN standout Ron Cox
(5th in points), Mesquite TX driver Chuck Weber, Laurel MS driver Robert
Burroughs coming off career-best finish of 4th at Watkins Glen; Largo FL
driver Donny Morelock and Pittsburgh, PA veteran Norm Benning (top-10
point finisher in last 3 consecutive seasons).
