TWO-WHEEL WARRIORS GEAR UP FOR BATTLE
AT MID-OHIO SPORTS CAR COURSE
DUBLIN, Ohio (July 10, 2001) - The international pro riders of the American
Motorcyclist Association's (AMA) Superbike Tour will hit the 2.4-mile,
15-turn permanent facility at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for one of the
nation's largest AMA events during the Honda Super Cycle Weekend presented
by Dunlop Tire, July 20-22, 2001.
Similar to last year, the 2001 weekend features a main event Wiseco
Superbike 100 doubleheader, with Round 9 of the AMA Superbike Tour schedule
set for Saturday, July 21, and Round 10 set for Sunday, July 22. Mid-Ohio
is the third of three venues this year to host an AMA Superbike Tour
doubleheader.
Last year Suzuki factory rider Aaron Yates swept the Wiseco Superbike 100
doubleheader, bringing his career Mid-Ohio win total to three. With the
victories, Yates tied Kawasaki rider Doug Chandler for most career Mid-Ohio
wins. Honda rider Miguel Duhamel is right behind with two wins in the
competitive class.
This year's Superbike races will again feature the familiar bikes of
Chandler, Duhamel and Yates as well as rising Honda star Nicky Hayden,
Kawasaki rider Eric Bostrom and past Mid-Ohio winner Pascal Picotte. The
250 Grand Prix, 600 SuperSport, 750 SuperSport and Formula Xtreme classes
round out the on-track action.
Off-track action this year is highlighted by the 11th Annual Mid-Ohio Dealer
Ride, a traditional staple of the Honda Super Cycle Weekend presented by
Dunlop Tire. Motorcycle owners can register at local participating
motorcycle dealers to take a lap of historic Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
during the lunch break on Sunday, July 22. This is the fans' chance to tour
the same circuit that challenges the world's top two-wheel pilots.
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, now in its 40th Year of Racing, is located off
Interstate 71 approximately halfway between Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio.
