GMC Midsize Utilities Smash June Sales Record

DETROIT - GMC, the Professional Grade division of General Motors, today announced record-breaking retail sales of midsize utilities sold in the month of June.

With 8,697 Jimmy and Envoy SUVs sold last month, GMC smashed its June midsize retail sales record of 7,385 vehicles established in 1998. Sales of the all-new Envoy helped pace the milestone-month with 6,442 units delivered.

"Our all-new GMC Envoy is off to a rocket-fast start. With the Envoy, we were able to fill a void in the midsize market by packaging a smooth, comfortable ride, ample amenities, superior roominess and segment-leading power into a best-in-class product with surprising capabilities," said Tony DiSalle, Envoy brand manager.

With GMC midsize utilities setting a June retail sales record, GMC helped GM to match Ford for market share in the medium utility category with 25.3 percent of the business. The last time GM led in this segment was December 1994.

In addition to GMC's midsize utilities breaking sales records in June, the division's Yukon product family also set a sales milestone in the large utility segment with 12,744 units delivered, which is up 48.8 percent over 2000 and second only to the family record set in May 2001.
