Law Takes Another Podium Finish
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ELKHART LAKE, Wisconsin (July 8, 2001) - Darren Law and the G&W Motorsports team overcame minor problems this weekend to finish third in the Grand American Rolex Series GT Class at the Road America 500.
After Saturday's qualifying run by Law, the #81 Motorola/Commscope/Valley Group/G&W Motorsports Porsche GT3-RS started the race in fourth position in the GT class.
The #81 machine consistently ran in fourth and fifth positions throughout the race.
Handling problems were not allowing the Porsche to compete to its full potential.
"We've been having problems with the car all weekend," Law said. "The crew has done a great job with helping to correct the car's handling issues. We still don't have it back to 100%, but we're getting there."
After a full-course caution came out with about 12 laps to go, the battle heated up in the GT class. Law took over third place and then battled to hold on to his position with the #54 JET Motorsports BMW M3.
With five laps to go the #54 spun in the Carousal allowing Law to go around and regain third place.
"We were fortunate things turned out the way they did," Law said. "The caution really helped to bunch the GT class back together. I just drove smart and held on until the end."
Law's main concern going into the Road America 500 was to maintain his driver championship points lead, in which he leads Terry Borcheller, driver of the #54 BMW by 14 points. In addition, G&W Motorsports holds on to a six-point lead over JET Motorsports in the GT Class Owners Championship.
Law and the rest of the G&W team will continue to build on their points lead when they compete at Trios Rivieres in August.
