LAST TIME IT WAS THE SMALL BLOCK'S, THIS TIME IT'S THE BIG BLOCK'S
STEWART VS BLANEY II SATURDAY JULY 21ST AT LEBANON VALLEY

JULY 10, 2001
WEST LEBANON, NY - History was made a few weeks ago when NASCAR Winston Cup
drivers Tony Stewart & Dave Blaney hot footed it around the Valley High Banks
in 358 Modifieds. Stewart came out the winner of round one by winning the
100-lap I Love NY 358 Modified Championship presented by CARQUEST Auto Parts.
Blaney finished a very respectful 4th. The rivalry between the two apparently
continued in Daytona as they swapped paint during the final laps of the Pepsi
400.
Big Block's will be the weapon of choice when the pair return to the West
Lebanon speed plant on Saturday July 21st as part of Rifenburg Construction
night. I Love NY, CARQUEST Auto Parts, Molson Canadian and Saratoga Spring
Water are all sponsors for this exciting event.
Tony Stewart and Dave Blaney showed the tremendous crowd just why they
are two of the best true race car drivers by mastering the Small Block's with
very little practice time. Blaney has won races at Lebanon Valley while he
was competing in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car series but Stewart who's
experience in a Small Block Modified was limited to his half dozen or so
warm-up laps prior to the evenings events looked like a seasoned veteran.
Unlike the previous race where the heat race starting positions were
determined by a draw, Stewart and Blaney will be subject to the speedway's
handicapping procedure for the Big Block race. This means they will have to
start in the rear of the heat races and race their way to a qualifying
position. If either finishes in a handicapped position they will start the
feature behind the regular Lebanon Valley drivers finishing in handicapped
positions.
A strong contingent of Lebanon Valley Modified chauffeurs will be gunning
for these two "Outsiders". Pride runs deep at "The Valley" and the local boys
don't like when someone comes in and swipes some bread from their plate. Look
for Kenny Tremont Jr., Dickie Larkin, Rich Ricci Jr., Tim Dwyer and J.R.
Heffner as well as the rest of the "Valley Boys" to try and put a whooping on
Stewart and Blaney.
Come see the "Rushville Rocket" & the "Buck-eye Bullet" mix it up with
the "Sand Lake Slingshot", the "Cyclone", the "Kingfish" and all the best
Lebanon Valley Speedway has to offer Saturday July 21st. All classes are also
in action.
Gates open at 5pm, warm-ups at 5:15pm with racing at 6:15pm. General
admission adult ticket $12, Kids (under 12) $5 and reserved seats $15 (top
eight rows). Call the Valley Ticket Hotlines M-F from 10am-5pm at (518)
794-9606 or (518) 794-9965.
General admission tickets are also available at Team Goewey Dodge, 955
New Loudon Road, Latham, NY 12110, on Route 9 - one mile North of the Latham
Circle (518) 220-9700. Keep up with all the events at Lebanon Valley by
