    DETROIT, July 10 AKT Peerless Environmental Services, the
law firm of Howard & Howard and the Detroit Regional Chamber will sponsor a
seminar on the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) implementation
and registration process Sept. 13 at the Laurel Manor in Livonia.

    The Big Three automakers have set deadlines for suppliers to become ISO
14001 certified as early as Dec. 31, 2001.  This timely presentation is a must
for business owners, quality/environmental managers and plant managers to gain
an understanding of the requirements of the ISO 14001 EMS standard and how it
will impact their operations.  Attendees will be instructed by an ANSI-RAB
certified EMS Auditor on how to identify their organization's environmental
aspects, and use this information to (1) define significant aspects, (2)
establish pollution prevention and waste reduction objectives and targets, (3)
form environmental management programs and (4) create operational controls, as
required by the standard.  Additionally, attendees will learn how the ISO
14001 registration process differs from the ISO/QS-9000 process, and how to
identify and protect their environmental liabilities during ISO 14001
development and implementation.
    The seminar will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Cost is $140 for Detroit
Regional Chamber members and $160 for non-members.  There is no charge for
Executive level Chamber members.
