ArvinMeritor Appoints Carl Soderstrom Chief Financial Officer

    TROY, Mich., July 10 ArvinMeritor, Inc. today
announced that Carl Soderstrom has been appointed chief financial officer,
effective July 21, 2001.  Soderstrom replaces Tom Madden, who has accepted a
position outside of the automotive industry.  Before his appointment,
Soderstrom served as ArvinMeritor's senior vice president, Engineering,
Quality and Procurement.

outstanding academic credentials, Carl is uniquely qualified to lead the
Finance team in support of ArvinMeritor's financial goals," said Larry Yost,
ArvinMeritor's chairman and CEO.  "He brings energetic enthusiasm and a depth
of strategic business understanding to the position that will ensure our
continued financial strength, as we drive toward our vision to be the number
one supplier to the automotive industry.  I am confident that Carl will add
value to the Finance team and will tackle the challenge with skill and

role he played in the Meritor spin-off, as well as his insightful contribution
to the ArvinMeritor merger."
    Soderstrom joined the company in 1986 as the director of Material Sourcing
for ArvinMeritor's predecessor Rockwell Automation.  He went on to direct
Product Development, Manufacturing and Engineering for that company.  Before
assuming the role of Meritor's senior vice president, Engineering, Quality and
Procurement in 1998, Soderstrom was vice president, Engineering and Quality,
for Meritor's Heavy Vehicle Systems business.  Prior to joining the
ArvinMeritor organization, he held management positions with General Electric
and Emerson Electric.
    Soderstrom holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a
bachelor's degree in economics from Duke University, as well as a master's of
business administration in finance and accounting from the University of
Michigan.  He is active in a number of professional organizations, including
the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Manufacturers Alliance/MAPI
Purchasing Council, and ESD.  Soderstrom is also a member of the Oakland
University School of Engineering and Computer Science Advisory Board, the
University of Michigan-Dearborn School of Engineering Visiting Committee and
the Wayne State University College of Engineering Advisory Board.
