MIKE WALKER SETS FIRST SUPER LATE MODEL FAST TIME
July 8, 2001 (North Hollywood, Calif.) - Mike Walker, co-owner of Team
Walker Motorsports and driver of the #23 Team Walker/Ron's Rear
Ends/Quixote/Sunset Expendables/NAPA Chevrolet in Irwindale (Calif.)
Speedway's Super Late Model program, set his career first fast time in the
program Saturday night.
Walker took the number one spot with a qualifying lap of 18.211 seconds
around the half-mile oval.
"We had a great car for qualifying, and I didn't have to push it all that
hard," Walker commented. "We were all excited, but I have to thank the team
for putting such a great car under me."
Walker experienced mechanical problems just before the halfway point in the
race. He finished the event in 15th place.
Meanwhile, team-mate Sean Woodside, who started from the inside second row
as a result of the inversion of the top ten qualifying cars, drove his #45
Team Walker/Ron's Rear Ends/NAPA Chevrolet to a fourth place finish.
Although Woodside missed the June 30th event at Irwindale due to a schedule
conflict with the Winston West Series, he maintains a close third place in
the point standings, just 36 points shy of the lead.
