Field Takes on New Experiences at Road America
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ELKHART LAKE, Wisconsin (July 6, 2001) - Not only is 18-year-old Clint Field of Dublin, Ohio, the youngest driver in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series, but he is also the only driver in the Road America 500 who will be sharing seat time with his dad.
Clint and his father, Jon, will be teaming up with Englishman Oliver Gavin in the #37 Banana Joe's/ Intersport Racing Lola Judd for the 500-mile race at Road America on Sunday. Clint regularly runs the #28 Banana Joe's/ Intersport Racing Ford Riley and Scott with his uncle Joe. The only other time Clint has driven with his dad was at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in February.
"I enjoy racing with my dad," Field said. "I've always wanted to drive in a fast car with him. We have a lot of fun driving together, but he also teaches me a lot about racing."
After a qualifying run by Jon, the Banana Joe's team will start in fourth position on the grid for Sunday's race.
"We had an under-steering problem during qualifying, but we will be able to fix the problem before the race tomorrow," Clint said optimistically. "We have a great chance of winning."
This weekend marks Clint's first time behind the wheel of the Lola. During this morning's practice session he shaved almost two seconds off yesterday's practice time and turned a 1:59.79 lap.
Field is looking to take his first victory in the Lola at the Road America 500, which will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.
