Statement From The Budd Company on the Death of Heinz Prechter

    TROY, Mich., July 6 The following is a statement from
Siegfried Buschmann, Chairman and CEO of The Budd Company in Troy, Michigan
and vice chairman of ThyssenKrupp Automotive AG in Bochum, Germany.

    "We are shocked and saddened at the loss of our dear friend and close
business colleague, Heinz Prechter.  Heinz had served on the Board of
Directors of The Budd Company for 25 years and offered tremendous wisdom and
counsel to all those he came in contact with.  He also served on the Board of
ThyssenKrupp Automotive AG in Germany.
    "He was a giant in the global automotive industry and a person of great
compassion and wit.  We will miss him and extend our sincere condolences to
his wife Wally and twin children, Stephanie and Paul."
