Orbital-Equipped Scooter Wins Environmental Award
PERTH, Australia, July 2 Orbital is pleased to announce that China Hainan Sundiro Motorcycle Co. Ltd (Sundiro) has won a major environmental award in China for its Orbital-equipped HI-JETER(TM) scooter. The Golden Award of the Fifth China Environment Protection Industry and the Seventh International Environment Protection Show was in recognition of the environmentally friendly nature of the 50cc HI-JETER(TM) scooter, which is produced by Sundiro and equipped with Orbital's direct fuel injection technology. Synerject LLC, a 50:50 joint venture between Siemens Automotive AG and Orbital, supplies the Engine Management Systems. "Recognition by Chinese authorities of the HI-JETER(TM) scooter is particularly pleasing given the prestigious nature of this award and the quality of the competition", said Mr. Kim Schlunke, Orbital CEO. "Emission standards are now being formalised in China and Sundiro is well ahead of other manufacturers with a scooter that achieves a 40% improvement in fuel economy and an 80% reduction in emissions." The HI-JETER(TM) scooter also provides a clean transport solution in major Chinese cities which are starting to prohibit or restrict the use of traditional two-stroke scooters. The rapid growth in the use of two-stroke scooters is a major cause of air pollution in China's cities. Sundiro has commenced producing HI-JETER(TM) scooters in an initial launch phase and is marketing these in four of the more polluted cities in China. "This award will bring added recognition to the product and assist in generating increasing sales in China," Mr. Schlunke said. Orbital is a leading international developer of engine technologies using direct in-cylinder fuel injection and lean-burn systems for enhanced fuel economy and lower emissions. The company serves the worldwide automotive, marine, recreational and motorcycle markets. Headquartered in Perth, Western Australia, Orbital stock is traded on the Australian Stock Exchange (OEC), the New York Stock Exchange (OE) as well as the Berlin (ORE) and Frankfurt (OREA) Exchanges.
